Juliet Bruce

Coming from a musical background, Juliet and her sisters were steeped in music from an early age.  Juliet began playing the piano at the age of five, She and her sister, Janet, performed as the Bruce Duo for several years, including at Wigmore Hall.

Since the beginnings of Piano at Tigh na Breac, Juliet has supported Diane with additional teaching and advice for our pianists, as well as continuing to be a convivial part of our hosting team!

Coming from a musical background, Juliet and her sisters were steeped in music from an early age.  Juliet began playing the piano at the age of five, learning with various teachers before discovering Frederick Bailey.  He was principal of a Music School some distance away (where Paul Roberts also studied),  where talented pupils had the opportunity to perform concertos annually with Bailey conducting the local orchestra in the Town Hall.  Juliet eventually became a teacher in the school and filled the role of much sought-after accompanist for the singing teacher.  This fueled her love of performing song recitals to this day.

Juliet continued to teach whilst studying with a much revered Austrian pianist, Edith Vogel, and was  coached in chamber music by cellist William Pleeth. She and her sister, Janet, performed as the Bruce Duo for several years, including at Wigmore Hall.

Juliet maintains a large teaching practice, accompanies for exams and festivals, and performs whenever the opportunity arises.   She is a key figure in running the Woodley Festival, a very successful annual event near her home town in Berkshire.  This requires a considerable amount of time and commitment throughout the year, attracting competitors and adjudicators from far and wide.
